Local History

The Owen County Public Library invites you to explore your family history using our resources. Our Kentucky collection gathers titles of regional interest that may be checked out with a valid library card. Microfilm and items on loan from the Owen County Historical Society, may only be used in the library.

The staff of the OCPL is willing to help in your quest for knowledge. We answer requests for information by mail, email or phone. Our staff will gladly fill your request for a specific item such as a marriage record or obituary. We are however, unable to take on extensive projects such as compiling a family lineage, locating missing persons, or voluminous copying projects from books or microfilm. Should you need further assistance other than what we can provide, we will gladly direct you to local genealogy services.  Please click the button below to view our list of microfilm housed at the library.

We have a selection of local publications produced by the Owen County Historical Society. Please click the button below to view titles and prices for these items.

In addition to our physical items in the library, we also have an online Digital Collection that contains copies of the News Herald and Owen County High School Yearbooks.  Please click the button below to view our Digital Collection.

A self serve copier is available at the library to use; black and white copies, as well as prints from the microfilm, are $0.10 per page. Color copies are $0.50 per page. We accept cash, checks or debit/credit cards as payment.

We also have online resources available for more of your Genealogy Research under our Research It tab on our homepage.  Check it out!
